A couple of years ago, when I first started my small agency, DM Artisan was one of the tools that helped me design my websites. It allowed me to create art-intensive designs with ease. Nowadays, I use Sketchup more than anything else when designing a site or app. But here’s the problem: Sketchup doesn’t come with any tools for website development or plugins for generated graphics-- until recently! Let me introduce you to DM Artisan 1.2. 4, a tool that can generate graphics, adjust colors and fill in layers for the web. It’s made for Sketchup by Design Master Group. DM Artisan is not free, but it does come with a free trial version that limits you to 2 windows while the full version has no limits. I’ll review some of DM Artisan’s features while also making some comparisons to other tools on the market.
Documentation DM Artisan comes with extensive documentation on how to use its features and which buttons do what. Step by step instructions show you how to install plugins, create windows and adjust color schemes. Support/Help The main issue I had with DM Artisan was the lack of responses to support questions. I’m sure others aren’t as lucky as me, but the support staff is active on Twitter and Google+. They do respond fairly quickly. Dependencies DM Artisan requires Sketchup 7 (or higher) to be installed on your computer. There are several other plugins that you must install, but this will make creating art-intensive websites easier. Sketchup isn’t free but it's well worth the price to create professional designs with ease. Web Support Originally, this tool was created for Sketchup, so there isn’t much help for this at the moment. The website’s forum may have some useful information. Otherwise, DM Artisan is designed to work with Sketchup, so if you have any questions about using this program outside of that software, use the contact form on their website or Twitter handle.
